About Choral Evensong

Evensong is a treasure of the worship of the Anglican Church.  It is a service of sung Evening Prayer, taken from the Book of Common Prayer of 1662.

This meditative and reflective service lasts for around 30-40 minutes, giving space to pause for a moment as the day draws to a close. 

What can I expect?

This service is led by the choir, who sing responses, canticles, an anthem, and the psalms set for the day on our behalf, allowing us to experience the beauty of the music in our wonderful church. There are some readings from the Bible, and prayers are said for the Church, the World and ourselves.  The congregation join with the choir in singing the two chosen hymns for worship.

You do not have to familiar with the service – when you enter, you can pick up an easy-to-follow order of service, which will guide you through each part.
